About the line

The Vikings were known for their impressive craftsmanship, and they loved to decorate themselves. At the Viking Line, you can try your hand at crafts and learn more about the craft techniques that the Vikings used.

You get to do everything from forging your own cutlery, spinning your own yarn and weaving beads to sewing your own clothes and shoes. Of course, you get to work a lot with wood, wool, leather and clay, and make objects like the Vikings did.

On the Viking Line you get to live close to nature. You will go on many hikes in the area, learning to gather and harvest what the fjord, mountains and forest have to offer. We like to spend the night in tents or under the open sky when we have the chance.

This is what you get to do:

🔨 Forging and working with wood, leather and textiles

Try your hand at being a craftsman and make everything from tools to jewelry, all based on old techniques.

🚣‍♂️ Row the Myklebust ship

Join us in rowing the world's largest reconstructed Viking ship at the launch at Sagastad.

🔥 Cooking on a campfire and in a cooking pit

You will learn to gather, harvest and cook food in various ways out in nature.

🎣 Fishing in the fjord, rivers and lakes

Join us on fishing trips where we test our fishing skills with rod, net and line.

Spend the night under the open sky and in a tent

We pack our bags and set up camp, sleeping under the open sky if the weather permits.

🎒 “Viking expedition” to Iceland and Gudvangen

We travel in the footsteps of the Vikings, both to Iceland and other short trips in Western Norway.

Join us in rowing the Myklebust ship at launch!

Through the collaboration with the Viking Center Sagastad , you can join in on history evenings and the launching of the Myklebust ship. The latter attracts thousands of people from both Norway and abroad, and you can help row it!

You can also help organize and live in the Viking camp at Sagastad, which is one of several opportunities during the year to travel back in time over a thousand years. For an extra challenge, you can hone your skills on the Olav Tryggvason climbing route to reach the top of Hornelen, Europe's highest sea cliff, and light a cairn bonfire.

At Nordfjordeid we are surrounded by historical sites. The Myklebust ship, the world's largest Viking ship, was found here. At Dragseidet you can stand where the Viking ships were dragged ashore when the sea at Stad was too rough. At Tvinnefossen you will find what many believe is the largest waterfall in Northern Europe that can be walked behind.

Who is the line suitable for?

Viking is for those who love nature, crafts and want to learn more about Viking history. You may be new or have experience from the Viking community, regardless, we start at the level you are at.

Our expectations of you

That you are positive, have an open mind and take challenges with a smile. You have an interest in nature, history and the Viking Age.
