Outdoor activities in collaboration with the Red Cross
What do you do when someone is badly injured in a fall or doesn't return at the agreed time after a mountain hike? Here you will learn how to keep a cool head and act correctly when seconds count.
Learn to save lives and stay safe in nature
With training in first aid, search and rescue from the Red Cross, you will be equipped to take responsibility in situations where it really matters.
The goal is for you to become an approved emergency worker and gain valuable expertise, whether you want to pursue a career in health, rescue and care, or you want to be someone who can help when someone needs you.
This will be the year where you get to experience nature up close, feel physical and mental mastery, while also forging strong bonds with those around you.
At Fjordane Folk High School you live in the middle of the spectacular nature of West Norway, and you get to practice mastering everything from maps and compasses to crisis management.
Get close to nature and try lots of different things!
🏄♂️ Surfing in Hoddevika
We try surfing, kayaking and diving in Hoddevika, Ervik and other nice places.
🏕️ Sleep under the stars
We spend the night in tents, snow caves, hanging huts and under the open sky.
🧗♂️ Climb where the view takes your breath away
We test our fear of heights in beautiful outdoor bouldering and climbing areas such as "Beachen", Via Ferrata Loen and Hornelen.
🎿 Top tours
We go on mountain tours both summer and winter. Here you can try everything from cycling, telemark skiing, snowboarding and randonee.
🧊 Ice swimming, skating and hockey
We take refreshing baths in the middle of winter and warm ourselves in a lovely sauna or by the fire.
🌪️ Stormy night at Stadt
West by the sea, you will experience the forces of nature as we hunt for autumn storms and spend the night at Kråkenes Lighthouse.
This is what you will learn:
Throughout the year you will receive full basic training under the auspices of the Red Cross:

You end the year with the Aid Corps exam , so that you can become an approved aid corps worker . After this, you can join local Red Cross clubs across the country and continue your volunteer work.

Emilie has always had nature as her playground and workplace. She is an adventurer, dog walker and outdoor enthusiast, and has worked with the outdoors and animals for as long as she can remember.
Over the years she has been a guide, a hiker and worked at a tourist cabin on the Hardangervidda plateau. She has also worked at the outdoor store Revir in Oslo and has even been a chef at a restaurant!
Emilie has a degree in nature and adventure tourism in Sogndal and has lived in both Australia and Costa Rica. She loves to travel, live simply and be outdoors, whether she's skiing, sleeping under the open sky or daydreaming about long expeditions in the ice with her seven polar dogs.

Meet Katinka
– It's awesome to stand on a mountaintop and know that I can take responsibility if something goes wrong. Here you get to try new interests in a safe environment and develop yourself. The year has made me more confident, and made it easier to throw myself into the unknown, says Katinka.
