Sewing and knitting
Do you dream of sewing and knitting your own clothes, being in a creative environment and finding your own style? Here you will learn different techniques and create your own wardrobe.
Learn to sew and knit your own clothes
At Sewing and Knitting you learn to sew your own clothes from scratch, regardless of prior knowledge. The line is suitable for those who are interested in sewing and creativity. A year at Fjordane will give you knowledge and skills you can use for the rest of your life, simply put, useful life skills.
The line has its own sewing room that is open day and evening. Each student has their own sewing machine. We end the year with a fashion show where you get to show off your new wardrobe.
This is what you get to do:
👗 Design clothes that fit your body
Learn how to take measurements, make basic patterns and adjust cuts so that the garment has a good fit and a style that suits you.
🧵 Sew fabric according to ready-made patterns
You will learn to read and understand ready-made patterns, cut out fabric and assemble the parts into a finished garment.
✂️ Explore different sewing techniques
You will practice both simple and advanced sewing techniques, from hand sewing to learning and mastering the sewing machine.
👘 Sew your own party costume
You will learn about material selection, sewing techniques and details such as embroidery and assembly.
🪡 Redesign
You learn how to take care of what you have, from repairing holes, changing cuts, using leftovers and giving new life to old garments.
⛰️ Tours at home and abroad
Join inspirational tours to hidden gems in the local area, visits to small producers and trips abroad in Europe.
This is what you will learn
We are keen to acquire new knowledge and inspiration. That's why we travel around, both locally in Nordfjord, but also on slightly longer trips. On these trips, we go hunting in second-hand shops, for example! We look for old treasures that might get a new life in your hands.

Meet Ingeborg
Teacher | Sewing and knitting
Ingeborg has been a teacher at Fjordane Folk High School since 2003, and was herself a student here in the equestrian program many years ago.
She is a qualified general teacher, with further education from the Norwegian Equestrian School Starum, driving trainer 1 in NRYF and examiner for driver certification.
She likes to preserve old techniques and convey the joy of knitting. Ingeborg will teach you how to dye your own yarn from natural raw materials and she is behind the knitting pattern for the Fjordane sweater.
When Ingeborg is not in the classroom, you can often find her out hiking in the mountains with her dog or on the couch with her knitting.
Teacher | Sewing and knitting
Heidi has been a teacher at Fjordane since 2019 and has a solid combination of academic strength and practical experience. She has a bachelor's degree in social care from the University College of Western Norway, further education in mental health and folk high school pedagogy from USN. She has also studied design, redesign and sewing of clothing at Rauland.
She helps students find their own style and expression. For Heidi, sewing and knitting are about making clothes that last and have meaning.
When the sewing machine is resting, you can often find her in the mountains or in the snow snowboarding, in the sauna or in the kitchen with something good going on. She loves handball, sewing, knitting, cooking and relaxing with a good series after an active day.
