Folk high school students still receive 40 percent in scholarships from the Loan Fund.

Last fall, the government proposed cutting the grant for folk high school students from 40 to 15 percent. After negotiations in the Storting on Wednesday, December 3, it is clear that this will not happen.

“I am so relieved that the proposal to cut the scholarship scheme is being reversed. This gives young people the security to choose a year where they can find direction, gain more self-confidence and explore their interests. The fact that the scholarship remains unchanged means that folk high school is still possible for everyone – regardless of financial situation”, says Silvia van Hesik Førde, Rector of Fjordane Folk High School .

What does this mean for those of you who want to go to folk high school?

The scholarship scheme will remain the same as before. You will receive support from the Loan Fund and when the year is complete, 40 percent of the loan will be converted into a scholarship.
