Kristine Klemmetvoll has settled well into the circus line at Fjordane Folk High School . Here in the school's kitchen garden.
An unforgettable and valuable year
– I learned an incredible amount within the circus, but not only that. I have developed as a person and made new fantastic friends.
For Kristine, the year was... Fjordane Folk High School a year where both body and mind got to work together. Through the circus line “Movement X Modern Circus” she got to explore the circus profession in depth, while at the same time gaining stronger self-confidence.
– I became more confident in who I am. The line subject gave me a completely new understanding of my body, both physically and mentally. We worked a lot on strength and body control, but the development didn't stop there. The community and the general subject did at least as much for me as a person.
Kristine chose Fjordane for a very specific reason. Fjordane Folk High School has the only circus line in Norway.
– When the choice was between several schools, there was really nothing to wonder about. The teachers seemed extremely competent. I couldn't miss the chance to do aerial acrobatics and be trained by a Cirque du Soleil artist.
"The Easterner in me never thought I would thrive so well in Western Norway."
The fact that the school is located in Nordfjordeid, in a beautiful village in Nordfjord, was a big plus.
– I never thought I would enjoy living so well in Western Norway, but the surroundings here are quite special. The nature, the tranquility and the atmosphere do something to you.
An active and varied everyday life at Movement X
– The best thing about the circus line is that we are active and train every single day. We train and develop a lot, but always with safe and healthy goals. The classes vary from juggling and trampoline to aerial acrobatics, and that makes the days both fun and educational.
In the class, students from different parts of the world meet, with different experiences and backgrounds.
– It makes everyday life exciting. We learn from each other all the time, both professionally and personally.

Teachers play an important role in development.
– They are extremely skilled in the circus profession and really good at teaching. They see you where you are, and help you step by step towards your goals. At the same time, they are part of the community. It is both safe and professional at the same time.
When Kristine looks back on the year, it is the friendships that remain the strongest.
– I have made friends for life. One special friendship has meant a lot to me. I learned what a true friend really is. It became so important that we got matching tattoos to commemorate the year and the friendship. That says it all.
Of the experiences that stand out, she highlights three.
End of the Year Show with the circus gang, where they got to show everything they've learned and, not least, support each other backstage one last time.
Surfing with the whole school, where she got to try something completely new in a safe environment. – We actually laughed together all day!
To the unforgettable evening walks with good friends that they called "late night laugh walks."
Kristine sums up the year in three words:
Self-developing. Real. Idyllic.

– It's definitely worth it. No matter which line you consider, you'll meet great teachers, a safe learning environment, and people who quickly become like family. It can be new and a little scary at first, but this is where you create memories and stories that you'll take with you for the rest of your life.
