Rebekka has always had a dream of going to folk high school.

Rebekka Berglen | Student and fellow Sewing and Knitting (2024–2026)

There is so much cool to do, learn and experience here. I would also like to highlight the fantastic food. The chefs make sure that everyone can eat good food, even those of us with food allergies!

Mastery and creative joy at Sewing and knitting

– I am so incredibly happy that I chose to go to folk high school!

For Rebekah, the year was Fjordane Folk High School a year where she was able to immerse herself in what she likes best. With needle, thread and knitting needles she found both mastery, peace and an everyday life filled with creative joy. She actually liked it so much that she chose to spend another year as a research fellow at the school.

– I have learned to knit, and now I have knitted two sweaters, a jacket, mittens and socks. In addition, I have learned pattern construction and how to make a garment fit perfectly.

The choice of Fjordane was not accidental.

– The nature here is absolutely fantastically beautiful. At the same time, the school has so many different electives, and I got the opportunity to delve into what I like best. Namely sewing.

At Søm og strikk, Rebekka has had access to a sewing room that quickly became a safe and creative base in her everyday life.

– My favorite room is the sewing room. It is incredibly well equipped, and the atmosphere in there is very special. The teachers are so skilled and can help with everything. Among other things, I have sewn a party suit that fits even better than I thought possible.

The teachers describe her with a smile.

– They are knowledgeable, caring and a little chaotic. In a very good way.

When Rebekka looks back on the year, it is often the small moments that come first.

– Drinking coffee at the coffee bar Bønna. It's also on the top list of my favorite places. Here we make good coffee, listen to cozy music and talk about everything between heaven and earth. There's always a good atmosphere there.

Among the experiences that have left their mark, she highlights three:

  • Sing-along in the sewing room

  • Class trip to Bergen

  • And one evening where the conversation in the auditorium was so good that time disappeared. All the way until two in the morning.

She sums up her time at Fjordane in three words: Filled with love.

For those of you considering Fjordane Folk High School , Rebekah's message is clear:

– Do it. Start here. There is so much cool to learn, do and experience. I would especially like to highlight the food. For me, who has many allergies, the kitchen has been absolutely fantastic. They accommodate everyone, and the food is so incredibly good. It is difficult to explain that feeling in words, but here there really is something for everyone.
