Maya reaches her goals faster than expected
Maya Lockyer Brevik | Student and Fellow | Movement X Modern Circus (2024–2026)
Developing together with others who are passionate about training is something that Maya values. Tutition fees on.
A year of rapid development, lots of laughter and good conversations
– I have learned a lot of professional-relevant things within circus, as I hoped. But I have learned a lot of other things too!
For Maya, it was the first year of Fjordane Folk High School a year of focused work with the circus profession, while also providing space to get to know yourself and the people around you better.
– The first year was an incredibly productive year. I have learned a lot about myself, about others, and about how I communicate. I have become more confident in who I am.
The choice of Fjordane Folk High School was easy
– The main reason was the circus line. I also had two friends who went to the circus here before me who were happy, and that's how I heard about the line.
The circus line Movement X Modern Circus is a lot about development, both individually and collectively.
– What I like best is self-development. With the help of Veera, who is an incredibly good teacher, a good class and a lot of new motivation, I have developed incredibly quickly. I reach my goals faster than I ever thought possible.
Maya is clear that development is closely related to the surrounding environment.
– Developing together with others who enjoy training and circus means everything. It would never have been possible to do it alone.
Competent teachers
Teachers play a central role in everyday life, and Maya particularly highlights Veera.
– Veera is professionally strong in a way that makes you not only do what you are told, but you understand why you should do it that way. She is also extremely talented herself, and it is truly inspiring to watch. In addition, she is pleasant, understanding and easy to talk to. In addition, she is responsible for much of the laughter in the classes.
One memory from that year remains especially strong.
– One evening we were sitting in the auditorium after dinner and talking about absolutely everything and nothing. Suddenly it was 11 pm and the building was about to be locked, but the teacher in charge sat down to have a chat with us about the math.
The conversation continued.
– We lay there talking about everything that came to mind. It was incredibly cozy. It was the first time I really felt a strong connection to Our people around me. Time passed and we sat until late at night.
When Maya looks back on the year, there are several other experiences to highlight.
– Many of my favorite memories are more about everyday life. Eating dinner together, working out in the evenings or standing behind the café Bønna with Rebekka and dancing to the music and talking to other people who have different interests than me. It may sound ordinary, but here it is something completely different. Everyday life in Fjordane is quite special and incredibly nice.
For Maya, the year at Fjordane was more than just a school year.
– It became a place where I was able to develop quickly, laugh a lot and really enjoy the people around me.
When Maya has to describe the year in three words, it's: Self-development. Everyday life. Possibilities.
For those of you considering Fjordane Folk High School , Maya has some good advice:
– Be open to new impressions and points of view. Don't hold yourself back. The year goes by so incredibly fast that you just have to take the chances that come your way.
And perhaps most importantly:
– You will look back anyway and think that you should have done even more. So just keep going. Try everything. Preferably something completely new, even if you think you won't like it. Don't be so self-critical. You have to dare to go for it, laugh at yourself and move on. There is high ceiling here and room for everyone. The variation in the lines means that the student group here is diverse and you will meet many new nice people.
